Instead means something in alternative for. In contrary to.
In Stead means to be in place of. To stand in behalf of.

This site aims to be contrary to what the Internet has been and is still is about. This is a site where we offer an alternative to the same old day-in, day-out stories of blogs everywhere.

We are In Stead. A team speaking, writing, blogging and standing in behalf of Our Lord and Savior Jesus---a privilege we all are proud of.
